Pregame notes: White Sox deploying another opener for the finale

Addison Red Line stop (Josh Nelson)

Right on the heels of a post about Huascar Brazobán's struggles, Will Venable was asked about the newest White Sox reliever before today's game.

"I think in Detroit some pitches that he left middle up in the zone, and then yesterday just not finding the zone at all," Venable said, "and so I think he’s just got to get comfortable, and I think he's learning new catchers, he's learning a new environment, whatever it might be, we’ve just got to get him comfortable and on track.

"So we'll continue to work through that. He's going to be in big spots here coming up, he's one of our guys back there. All these guys obviously have been exposed to really important innings for us and are going in pitching and trying to get meaningful outs, so he'll be right back in there. But yeah, we’ve got to get him competitive in the zone."

A win today would ensure a season series split, and the White Sox are running out the same lineup through eight spots, with Jake Rogers catching and batting ninth instead of Drew Romo.

Sean Newcomb is opening for as many outs as makes sense, with José Urquidy providing the bulk, and hopefully an encore for Erick Fedde's work on Tuesday.
