Ryan Galanie

While the assignments of Hagen Smith and Noah Schultz had already been tipped, the rest of the White Sox's delegation to the Arizona Fall League has been confirmed.

The White Sox will be sending the core of their Birmingham offense, Braden Montgomery, Sam Antonacci and Ryan Galanie, on the position-player side, while rounding out their pitching staff with Carson Jacobs and Tyler Davis.

While Smith and Schultz are obvious candidates to make up for starts they missed during the regular season, Montgomery, Antonacci and Galanie have no such concerns. Montgomery is approaching the 100th game of his first professional season, and while Antonacci missed a few weeks with a broken finger, he should get to 100 games and 450 plate appearances barring unforeseen injuries. They just happen to be in the category of prospects who want reps, and the White Sox are willing to pile it on their plates.

Given the unprecedented length of their season and the fact that Birmingham is already enough of a test for the time being, it wouldn't be surprising if Montgomery and Antonacci failed to distinguish themselves in the desert. Galanie, on the other hand, is the sort of hitter who could use the AFL as a showcase. He's hitting .273/.326/.406 in Birmingham, but put his decent plate coverage and all-fields approach in a hitter-friendly environment, and perhaps he stands out more than the Southern League currently allows.
