White Sox Minor Keys: April 26, 2025

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers on brick

It's been a fraught weekend for the top of the 2024 White Sox draft class, at least on the position-player side.

Second-round pick Caleb Bonemer got drilled in the forehead/bill of the helmet in the second inning of Friday night's game in Myrtle Beach, departing the game under his own power, but with a trainer escort and a towel over his face. He didn't play on Saturday.

Adding to the pain, third-round pick Nick McLain, who hadn't played since last Sunday, was placed on the 7-day injured list, while fourth-rounder Casey Saucke, who was already on the IL, was shifted to the full-season injured list.

Saucke's condition had been compromised all year. He didn't appear in any spring training games, and although he made his professional debut in respectable fashion at Winston-Salem last year, he opened 2025 in Kannapolis, and playing exclusively at DH. He then proceeded to go 1-for-20 with 10 strikeouts over five games, the last of which was April 12, and now he's done for the season.

The injuries in the outfield opened a spot for Abraham Nuñez, who made his A-ball debut after hitting .292/.382/.371 over 53 games with the ACL White Sox last season.
