Good morning!
This week on Sporcle Saturday we move on to the mound, where there have been quite a few guys over the last several years to throw the first pitch of the game. Interestingly, unlike some of the other positions that have been covered over the past several weeks, there are several throughlines from 2017 to present. Three starting pitchers who appeared in 2017 all made appearances in 2021, something which can't be said for catcher (to take just one example) where you'd need to travel up to 2019 to get duplicate names.
So today, I'm asking you to recall every starting pitcher who started at least one game for the White Sox since 2017. It's worth mentioning that while I've provided the number of innings next to each entry, that total isn't necessarily reflective of their time as a starting pitcher. Some names on this list were mainly relievers pressed into a spot start or bullpen day, so something to keep in mind. At any rate, there are a Mark Buehrle uniform number of entries: how many can you name? Good luck!
Quiz Parameters
- I've allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
- For hints, I've provided the year and number of innings pitched that season.
Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:
- 2018 saw the last White Sox pitcher throw for more than 200 innings.
- The White Sox aren't alone in lacking starters who throw 200+ innings. In 2021 just four players reached that threshold with Zack Wheeler leading the way with 213.1 IP.
- The pitcher with the most innings pitched since 2017 is Gerrit Cole, with 870.
