Sporcle Saturday: Stopping the clock

Good morning!

It likely escaped the notice of many, but this past Wednesday marked an anniversary. The anniversary in question-- June 30, 1988-- was the midnight deal via the Illinois legislature that approved a new stadium for the White Sox and kept the franchise in Chicago.

In Illinois (and elsewhere), legislature procedure allows the House Speaker (in this case, Michael Madigan) to literally or metaphorically stop the clock in order to meet a deadline. Here's an article from the Chicago Tribune at the time of how it went down.

At any rate, just under three years later (April 18, 1991), the White Sox popped the champagne on New Comiskey under an inauspicious start: a 16-0 blowout at the hands of the Detroit Tigers. Today’s Sporcle will challenge you to dredge up any memories you might have repressed from that game: which Sox and Tigers players were involved in this game? All told there are 33 players (15 Tigers, 18 White Sox): how many can you name? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

    • I've allotted 15 minutes for completion attempts..
    • For hints, I've provided the position of the player in question, and sorted by team. For relievers, I've indicated their handedness. Position player replacements are denoted by PH (whether that's as a pinch hitter, or defensive sub).

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

    • All of Detroit's runs were scored in the 3rd and 4th innings (6 and 10, respectively).
    • The White Sox had no extra base hits.
    • Too little, too late: after those big 3rd and 4th innings, Sox pitching allowed just 4 singles the rest of the game.
