Sporcle Saturday: Doubles leaders

Good morning!

Lost in the mix of Tuesday night’s nutty win over the Twins was a particular double by Jose Abreu. The first baseman’s first inning two-bagger that scored Tim Anderson to give the Sox a 1-0 lead also happened to be the 250th double of his MLB career. It also moved him out of tie for ninth place and he has a real shot to continue moving up in this season alone. A tie for sixth place all-time isn’t far away at 266, though we’ll all have to wait and see if he can ever get to fifth place, which is a lofty 320 doubles.

At any rate, today’s Sporcle will celebrate Abreu’s accomplishment: of the 35 players to record at least 150 doubles over their career with the White Sox, how many can you name? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I’ve allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I’ve provided the tenure of the player in question, their position, and the number of doubles.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • The average triple-slash from the players on this list: .281/.349/.421.
  • The career OPS is all over the map: the player with the highest OPS sits at .995, while the lowest is a paltry .620.
  • Tim Anderson is the current White Sox closest to 150 career doubles as he currently has 139.
  • Meanwhile, Yoan Moncada is at an even 100 doubles.

35/35 with 5:53 left. Some of that time was because I consistently misspelled the name of the 1920-28 outfielder because it is one letter off of the name of an old colleague of mine.

34/35. Missed the 32-40 2nd baseman.

The 1932-40 2nd baseman is the only player on the list who has not appeared several times on other quizzes. I didn’t get them all but everyone else is familiar to me and in some cases only familiar from these quizzes. I put in

old timers I learned from Sporcles
Kuhel, Wright, and Kreevich

pretty quickly and I wouldn’t have done that before doing these quizzes.

At least a couple of these guys were not good hitters.

I got only 20. You guys with 30+ are nerds, LOL! In my defense I got everyone since I’ve been alive at least, with the exception of Orta.
