As Josh showed in his terrific 2010s All-Decade Team post this past Tuesday, first base has been one of the few (perhaps only) positions of consistency for the White Sox over the years. Now that Mal Tiempo has been locked up for another year, and with Andrew Vaughn (hopefully) waiting in the wings, things could stay consistent at the 3 position for quite a bit longer.
In franchise history, first base hasn't, really, been *too* much of a black hole for lengthy stretches of time. As this Sporcle will show, there are quite a few repeat customers on the list: though there are 88 entries, just 32 are unique names. How many can you get? Good luck!
Quiz Parameters
- To qualify, a player must have logged at least 60% of their games playing first, and qualified for the batting title.
- I've allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
- For hints, I've provided the year and the age of the player in question.
Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:
- The average triple-slash of the players on this list: .282/.357/.441
- The most hits in a season from a player on this list: 194, coming in 1936.
- Speed: never a priority for first basemen. And, it isn't on this list either, at least past the 19-aughts. The highest number of stolen bases is 52, set in 1901. If one moves past the 19-aughts, though, 22 is your high number set in 1942.
