White Sox vs. Guardians at Rate Field

The first chance at clinching didn’t work. How about a redo?

Game 4 is Game 17, in the sense that the ALDS is pretty much the continuation of a season series that gives the White Sox a 9-7 edge at the moment. This time, the Guardians would hold the tiebreaker if the White Sox can't get to 10.

It's also kinda Game 1, in the sense that Parker Messick is starting for the Guardians, and the White Sox are running out the same lineup they did the first time -- Tommy Pham, Brenton Doyle, the whole works.

The pitchers we mentioned in this morning's post -- Erick Fedde, Anthony Kay -- are expected to handle bulk work, and the hope is that Grant Taylor can go at least four outs.

Josh is once again at the Ramova Theatre for the White Sox watch party, and we'll be streaming our pregame show starting at 6:30.

Will Venable is chalking up a poor Game 3 showing in part to being overamped by the most energized home crowd these Sox have ever played in front of. Before today's game he said:

I think that yesterday is a very good tutorial for today, and I think it's really just the environment. We talked about it yesterday, that we knew this was going to be a juiced-up environment, and I thought it impacted us. I thought you saw us chase a lot more. I think it was one of our highest chase rates of the year, and so I think, yeah, I think we were a little sped up yesterday, so I think we get to hit the reset button on understanding the environment a little bit better. Messick, a guy we just faced, we know him well, so at this point, there's not going to be any secrets, especially as far as the environment goes, having experienced it yesterday.

We'll see if the real blackout effect of dark-clad fans at night makes any difference.
