If the White Sox win tonight, they secure the season series over the Guardians, and thus the tiebreaker. They'd extend their division lead to 1½ games, but the more significant value comes whenever the standings reach an integer form. Holding the tiebreaker would effectively add a game to any whole-number lead.
If the White Sox lose tonight, they drop into second place for the first time since July 3.
