Given that it's the week before the trade deadline, any sudden departure from a Triple-A game packs potential meaning, as well as the potential for a false alarm.
On Wednesday, Eric Haase made his organizational debut with Charlotte, but he didn't see the end of it. Signed to a minor league deal on Tuesday after being released by the Giants and still wearing a San Francisco orange mask, Haase went 3-for-5 with a double in his first action with the Knights, grounding out in his final plate appearance to end the top of the eighth.
When Jonathan Cannon took the mound for the bottom of the eighth, he soon realized that he didn't have anybody to warm him up. After a couple of minutes, of talking in the dugout and to umpires, manager Chad Pinder waved in Korey Lee from the bullpen to catch the final two innings.
Did this mean that Haase, a veteran catcher who would give the White Sox some experience behind the plate if they so chose, was headed to Chicago as part of a sequence of roster moves? No, he was just dehydrated, so #HugWatch will have to wait a day. But this does remind me that Guillermo Quiroz will warm up pitchers when his catcher is suiting up, and without a mask. I suppose 1,494 games behind the plate makes it second nature.
