Caleb Bonemer is Birmingham-bound, as the White Sox announced the promotion as he wrapped up business with Winston-Salem on Sunday.

Bonemer leaves the Dash leading the South Atlantic League with 18 homers, but the bump up to Double-A doesn't exactly catch him on a classic upswing otherwise. When you look at his monthly numbers, they're kinda going the wrong way, save one column:

MonthPABAOBPSLGBB%K%
April106.284.396.75010.431.1
May111.214.396.40518.029.7

It's been a plus season for a 20-year-old in High-A on the whole, just an uneven one. The strikeout rate was the one thing suppressing excitement at the start of the season, and now his improvement in that category is what's buoying in at a time where his other numbers are lagging.

As James wrote after talking to Ryan Fuller, Bonemer is the rare A-baller who has been pitched like a big leaguer, as he's seeing more sliders than fastballs, and here's what Fuller said about it:

"He went a little heavy in one area, opposition made an adjustment, now we need to counteract that," Fuller said. "He wants to be that player and there are a few. [Miguel Vargas is] doing it right now -- above-average decisions, above-average contact, above-average damage -- Bonny's certainly got that skill set. That's why you play in the minor leagues. You find out where you need to make adjustments, whether that's swing, the approach you have, what you need to do in terms of training time every single day. That's going to be a fun one to find a way to make another adjustment and get on a heater again."
