In case you missed it, there's a good explanation for why prospect Hagen Smith struggled in his most recent start with Triple-A Charlotte, but not a happy one.

The White Sox say the former fifth overall pick has left shoulder impingement and will miss at least the next four weeks. He will be shut down from throwing for two weeks, and spend another two weeks ramping up for a return to game action. The Sox don't need to solve their fifth starter slot this series, but they need to solve its next appearance with someone other than Smith.

Meanwhile, Kyle Teel and Noah Schultz both begin rehab assignments with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday night. With the urgency behind Schultz's return already established, it's also worth mentioning that Sox catchers are a combined 4-for-42 with a double in June.

A bit further off from Charlotte, the White Sox also announced that right-handed reliever Wikelman González will begin a rehab assignment for his lat strain with the ACL White Sox on Tuesday. González last pitched around seven weeks ago, but was off to a nice start in Triple-A (14 IP, 2.57 ERA, 20 K, 5 BB) albeit with downright goofy platoon splits (.351 OPS against righties, .984 against lefties).

If Davis Martin is selected to the All-Star Game, he'll be the first homegrown White Sox starter to make it since James Baldwin in 2000.

Since April 17, these are the two best teams in the American League. The White Sox have gone 32-19 in that timeframe, the Yankees have gone 33-18.
