If winning in the minors teaches players how to win in the majors, then the Winston-Salem Dash passed their first test on Tuesday with a come-from-behind, 10-inning 9-8 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Truist Ballpark.
The stakes of South Atlantic League playoff baseball won't be confused for the MLB equivalent, but Javier Mogollón faced a High-A simulation when he came to the plate with two outs in the ninth inning. The Dash trailed 8-5, but Mogollón represented the tying run with men on first and second, and the Hot Rods acknowledged the stakes by bringing in righty Ryan Andrade with hopes of gaining the platoon advantage to end the game.
Instead, Mogollón drove the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a game-tying homer.

And after Carlson Perkins stranded the Manfred Man to keep the game tied heading into the bottom of the 10th, Nick McLain walked it off with a "single" off the base of the center field wall.

The Dash now head to Bowling Green for a chance to sweep the three-game series on Thursday. I may as well drive up to see it.
Charlotte 4, Buffalo 1
- Rikuu Nishida singled, walked, bunted, struck out and was caught stealing.
- Junior Pérez homered, doubled and struck out twice.
- Drew Thorpe: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 42 of 68 pitches for strikes.
Birmingham 3, Knoxville 2 (10 innings)
- Caleb Bonemer doubled, singled twice and struck out once.

- Pierce George earned his win: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 16 of 24 pitches for strikes.
Notes:
*Updating the playoff picture, the Barons are effectively two games back of Rocket City with five to play due to being on the wrong end of the tiebreaker.
Winston-Salem 9, Bowling Green 8 (10 innings)
- Javier Mogollón went 2-for-5 with a homer and a strikeout.
- Kyle Lodise was 1-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base.
- James Taussig, 1-for-5 with a homer and two strikeouts.
- Jeral Perez, 1-for-5 with a K.
- Nick McLain went 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and a strikeout.
- Braden Holcomb went 1-for-4 with a homer and a strikeout.
- Max Banks: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 15 of 26 pitches for strikes.
Notes:
*George Wolkow won't appear in the playoffs, James reports, as he suffered a hairline left big toe fracture on a slide.
*Christian Oppor was placed on the development list, so while the Dash will probably run out tons of pitchers like they did tonight (seven), Oppor probably won't be one of them.
