First Pitch: White Sox at Padres

Petco Park (Josh Nelson / Sox Machine)

Pregame Notes

  • The Chicago White Sox enter tonight's game within one game of the American League wild card.
  • Munetaka Murakami leads MLB in home runs with 13 and is tied for the American League lead in RBI (26) with New York Yankees first baseman Ben Rice.
  • Using FanGraphs WAR, Colson Montgomery currently ranks 16th in MLB position players at 1.4 WAR.
  • San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King will be making his sixth career appearance against the White Sox tonight, but only his second start against the South Siders. Last year, with Sean Burke also starting for the White Sox, King pitched five scoreless innings allowing four hits, four walks, and four strikeouts.
  • Tonight will be Burke's third career start against San Diego. Last year, Burke only lasted four innings while allowing three runs (two earned) with four strikeouts. In 2024, Burke had a great start against San Diego pitching six innings allowing one earned run, one walk, and striking out eight.
  • Fernando Tatis Jr., who is still homerless for the season, is the only Padres in tonight's lineup to have homered off Burke.
