Jacob Gonzalez hit eight homers over 130 games in his first full pro season back in 2024, and then he hit eight homers over 134 games last year.
This year is less than one month old and only 22 games deep, and Gonzalez is already at seven after a two-homer, seven-RBI game against the Nashville Sounds on Friday.
Gonzalez is now hitting .263/.375/.575 on the year, thanks in large part to Truist Field, where he's slugging .650, as opposed to .375 on the road. It'd be easy to write him off as a creation of his environment, except Statcast says he is hitting the ball nearly three ticks harder, per his average exit velocity.
Friday's body of work will boost his hard-hit rate, with two homers (105.9 mph, 105.1 mph) and a double (105.3). His first dinger reached Mint Street behind right center, and there's no distance on the second one because at 42 degrees, it ended up on the roof top behind the right field foul pole.
Gonzalez cited "adjustments" for his success this season in a postgame interview with Kendall Smith, and when she asked what adjustments, he credited standing taller in the box, for what that's worth.
Our team leader in HR and RBIs delivered in a big way again today with 2 homers and 7 RBIs!
