The White Sox farm system got a boost from two prospect debuts on Tuesday. One had been anticipated, as David Sandlin's project late-April return began with a two-inning rehab appearance for Winston-Salem.
The other came from off the board, as 11th-round superathlete Matthew Boughton joined the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, rather than making his pro debut with the ACL White Sox when the complex league starts May 2.
Sandlin, who didn't appear in Cactus League play due to a couple of injuries, opened his afternoon with a three-pitch strikeout, and while the Hub City Spartanburgers made him work a little harder over his other 38 pitches, he still emerged unscathed. The Hub City broadcast relayed that he was expected to throw 45 pitches and/or three innings, but once he gave up a pair of two-out singles and his lone walk to make the first inning a 27-pitch affair, the chances of a third frame went by the boards.
David Sandlin made his first rehab start for the #Dash in the Tuesday matinee. He goes 2 scoreless innings (likely longer if not for a marathon AB by Arturo Disla) and allows 2H and 1BB. He strikes out 4 on 28k/41p. He does not factor in the decision. pic.twitter.com/6uAtXvqB4U

Boughton's promotion was a surprise, both due to his relative rawness and the fact that Billy Carlson and Javier Mogollón are worthy of the most middle-infield reps right now. Nevertheless, the Texas small-school high jump and long jump champ started at second and went 1-for-4 with a double.
The double mattered. The Cannon Ballers entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 7-1, but Stiven Flores greeted sidewinding lefty Bryce Shaffer with a single, and all hell broke loose. Boughton hit how he was pitched, lining an outer-half fastball into the right-center gap to double home Flores and make it 7-2 ...

... and that only opened the inning's scoring. After an error, infield single, walk, single, single, strikeout, single and wild pitch, Mogollón walked it off with a single through the left side to cap off the furious comeback for an 8-7 winner.
