Charlotte Knights caps

Charlotte Knights

|Jim Margalus / Sox Machine

For all the concern about the White Sox deploying two catchers in the same lineup when Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero are healthy, the Charlotte Knights have taken it up a notch.

Saturday's lineup against Memphis featured all three of their catchers -- Drew Romo behind the plate, Josh Breaux at DH, and Korey Lee in right field. If the White Sox's lineup looks weird when they face a lefty, it's even stranger one level down due to the shortage of righties at nearly every other position.

Credit Korey Lee for seeing an opportunity where his coaches might see desperation.

Memphis 6, Charlotte 4

  • Jarred Kelenic pinch-hit and struck out.
  • Jacob Gonzalez was 0-for-2 with two walks and a strikeout.
  • Sam Antonacci walked in both plate appearances after entering as a pinch-hitter. He handled third base.
  • Tanner McDougal's best Triple-A start yet: 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 1 HR
  • Tyler Schweitzer let his Charlotte guard down: 2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 HR

Notes:

*William Bergolla Jr. was placed on the 7-day injured list retroactive to Friday with what they were calling a bruised shin after his collision with Sam Antonacci.

Birmingham 5, Chattanooga 4

  • Rikuu Nishida went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.
  • Braden Montgomery was 1-for-3 with a sac fly and a strikeout.
  • Jeral Perez, 1-for-4 with a strikeout and a stolen base.
  • Samuel Zavala delivered the walk-off single to cap off a 2-for-4 night. He struck out once.
  • Shane Murphy: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 45 of 63 pitches for strikes.

Highlights:

*Zavava's heroics meant the Barons could overlook blowing a 4-0 lead entering the seventh.

Frederick 11, Winston-Salem 2

  • Colby Shelton doubled twice, singled and struck out twice.
  • Caleb Bonemer doubled, walked and struck out thrice.
  • George Wolkow was 0-for-5 with two strikeouts.

Notes:

*The Dash struck out 18 times.

Hickory 6, Kannapolis 5

  • Jaden Fauske went 1-for-4 with a walk, two strikeouts and two stolen bases.
  • Javier Mogollon walked, got plunked, struck out thrice and stole a base.
  • Boston Smith went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.
  • Blaine Wynk: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K

Notes:
