The White Sox never scored, much less held a lead, during their 2-0 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Friday night, but if they followed the lead of their top two affiliates, there might have been no point.
Charlotte built a 7-0 lead through six, only to allow the Memphis Redbirds to tie up with seven in the seventh. Zach Franklin entered in relief of Tyson Miller with one out and a runner on second with the Knights up 7-1, only to give up three homers and the lead before he could record two outs. At least Charlotte recovered to slink out of Truist Field with the win in 10 innings.
The Birmingham Barons, on the other hand, had a chance to hand the 6-0 Chattanooga Lookouts their first loss of the season as they entered the eighth inning. Jarold Rosado took the mound with a 4-0 lead, but the Lookouts led 8-4 by the time he departed it, and he only retired one batter. The sequence, all of it occuring over the course of 32 pitches:
- Single
- Double
- Two-run single
- Two-run homer
- Single
- Single
- RBI single
- Strikeout
- Three-run homer
The Barons could only get one of those runs back via a Caden Connor solo shot in the ninth.
