First pitch: White Sox at Rays

George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.

Speaking of first pitches, this game was moved up by a half hour to avoid a forecast of inclement weather.

Davis Martin was activated off the injured list after two rehab outings for his forearm strain. He's effectively taking the rotation slot opened up by Shane Smith's left ankle sprain, and he's quite literally taking the roster spot of Wilkelman González, who was optioned back to Triple-A Charlotte.

The Rays placed two-time All-Star infielder Brandon Lowe on the injured list with left foot/ankle tendinitis, and just acquired outfielder Stuart Fairchild from the Braves in exchange for cash considerations.

Per MLB.com's Jim Callis, the White Sox have signed 10th overall pick Billy Carlson at full slot value. He's reported to the team complex in Arizona.

Will Venable told reporters in Tampa that Luis Robert Jr. has a scheduled day off.
