The White Sox lost their 22nd one-run game in 30 chances to close out the first half, but at least there's a palate-cleanser in the form of the MLB draft, which begins tonight at 5 p.m. You can join us live on our Playback channel for our reactions as the draft proceeds.
Surveying the final mock drafts posted today -- besides Josh's, which has California prep shortstop Billy Carlson going to Chicago -- there isn't anything resembling a consensus by the time the projections get to the White Sox at the 10th pick. The shared idea is that they'd draft a shortstop if there's one to draft, but there's not a whole lot of confidence voiced by any individual outlet.
MLB Pipeline's Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo both mocked JoJo Parker to the White Sox, but it's presented more like Parker's floor than the likeliest outcome, especially by Callis:
Parker is the most realistic best-case scenario for the White Sox, though there's a nagging suspicion that he might not get here. Chicago could turn to prep infielders Kayson Cunningham and Gavin Fien or Tennessee second baseman Gavin Kilen.
Parker is off the board before the White Sox's turn in the final mock drafts posted by Baseball America and ESPN, so both settled on Carlson as a very fine backup plan.
In Keith Law's final mock, neither Carlson nor Parker are on the board, so the White Sox end up with Tennessee lefty Liam Doyle. The way he hears it: "Pretty sure this would be a dream scenario for the White Sox."
