The White Sox have been connected to Oscar Luis Colás since he posted simply because Colás is Cuban. The ties first became concrete with reports from Cuban baseball reporter Francys Romero, after which Ben Badler from Baseball America officially linked the two parties in his ranking of the top international prospects.

That makes MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez late to the party, but since the next signing period won't open until Jan. 15, 2022, it doesn't hurt to refresh and re-confirm the status. He also mentioned that while Colás has been called "the Cuban Ohtani," it's apparently only useful for confirming his arm strength, as he has no interest in pitching.

Meanwhile, Romero said another top Cuban player, infielder Cesar Prieto, defected from the Cuban team in South Florida.

Prieto hit .403/.463/.579 with 33 strikeouts to 11 walks over 74 games for Cienfuegos. James Fox says the White Sox have no other known commitments besides the $2.7 million to Colás.
