No. 1: Jose Abreu (5 Years 60 Million). I think there's appetite on both sides to do a long term above market TV below market AAV to keep Abreu around.
No. 2: Gerritt Cole (7 Years 250 Million Player Opt out after 3). This is the signing that will define the Sox offseason. The best player in the Sox biggest need. This effectively takes every other medium+ tier FA off of our shopping list, and I think its well worth it.
No. 3: Mike Moustakas (1 Year 10 Million + 1 Year Player Option 11 Million). I like Moustakas as a regular 1B for the Sox, allowing Abreu to primarily play DH. Also gives us flexibility to give Moncada a rest.
TRADES
No. 1: Trade Steele Walker to Dodgers for Joc Pederson. Cole effectively knocks us out of the overpaid-OF-FA market so we have to get a little creative. A mid tier prospect for 1 year of Joc seems like something LAD would go for, and plugs a giant hole in our outfield without giving up too much.
SUMMARY
I really wanted to sneak in a Grandal, but Cole was priority 1 and had to make sacrifices. Based on the Cott's excel, this puts us right at $114MM which gives some flexibility for anything I underestimated and lets us keep an eye on the Relief market. This team is respectable at every position and can compete for the division crown.
