PREAMBLE
So, I'm trying to win the World Series next year, but I'm not trying to spend all kinds of money on guys the Sox aren't going to spend on. For the most part, I think this is realistic and that this team could win a World Series in 2020. There might be some value issues on the trades, but I leaned on an outside resource there.

FREE AGENTS
Zack Wheeler, 5 years for $100 million
Wade Miley, 2 years for $16 million
Justin Smoak, 1 year for $3 million
Martin Maldonado, 1 year for $2.5 million
Jason Kipnis, 2 years for $8 million
Steve Cishek, 2 years for $9 million
I decided to avoid the biggest fish altogether and address stuff more through trades.
Wheeler gets what Shark got basically in free agency. I think he'll be a great starter here to sit behind Giolito as long as he stays healthy.
Miley will fill out the back end of the rotation. He's been solid for years now and can get innings. I just wanted a guy to throw 160 or more innings at a pretty good clip.
Smoak, Maldonado, and Kipnis will all fill key bench roles while Cishek falls into a middle relief role.
TRADES
The Mets send Michael Conforto for Reynaldo Lopez and Luis Gonzalez
The Cubs send Javier Baez for Nick Madrigal, Blake Rutherford, and Steele Walker
The Dodgers send Joc Pederson for Carlos Rodon and Alex Colome
The Blue Jays send Ken Giles for Zack Collins
I went on BaseballTradeValues.com to help on this. The only one that didn't work over there was the Pederson deal. That's only because Colome has zero value for whatever reason. I don't really buy that.
Anyways, I'm adding a lot of power here. Conforto and Pederson are both there to mash RHP and Baez is a star secondbaseman on his way out the door for financial reasons. Ken Giles has had an up and down career, but I like his stuff and he gets strikeouts at the end of the pen.
