Sporcle Saturday: 60+ XBHs in a season since 1972

Entering Friday's game, Jose Abreu had 14 doubles and 15 home runs through 56 games, putting him on pace for roughly 85 extra base hits this season. While it seems unlikely that he'll maintain that pace over the remainder of the 2019 campaign, it would seem that he's a near-lock --barring injury -- to reach 60 extra base hits once all is said and done.

Abreu's been remarkably consistent on that front over the course of his Sox career: he's logged at least 60 XBH in each season but two --2016 and 2018-- and even then he finished just three and one shy, respectively. So for today's Sporcle I'd like to celebrate that accomplishment: in the DH era, who has logged at least 60 extra base hits in a season for the Sox? That's 59 instances: how many can you name? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

    • I've allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
    • For hints, I've provided the season, XBHs, and position.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

    • The single-season franchise record is 99, set in 1998.
    • The first player to do it for the Sox was Shoeless Joe Jackson, with 64, in 1916.
    • The MLB record for XBHs in a single season is 119, set by Babe Ruth in 1921.
    • Interestingly, just one player logged 200 hits in a season while accomplishing this feat.
