While we've paid a lot of attention to whether great stats at Charlotte translate into credible performances in Chicago -- Charlie Tilson's grand slam is a point for it, Nicky Delmonico's season a point against -- it's also kinda fascinating to watch how numbers translate in the other direction.
For instance, Daniel Palka went from 1-for-35 in Chicago to a four-digit OPS in Charlotte, and it's difficult to put either showing into proper context, especially when he doesn't have a lot of company going in that direction.
But here comes Adam Engel, whose attempt at resuscitating his bat in Charlotte is off to a slow start. Engel had his third consecutive 0-for-4 game on Wednesday, leaving him just 7-for-48 with two walks and 14 strikeouts over his first 13 games back at Triple-A.
It's possible Engel is battling a hangover after a couple seasons of MLB life, or that he's attempting to reinvent his swing yet again in his quest for adequacy. However, Engel never really hit at Charlotte before he spent nearly two full calendar years as the White Sox' most regular center fielder. He was batting just .218 when the White Sox called him up back in 2017, so his demotion carried a chance of revealing more than he wanted people to know.
