Pregame notes: After one PA, Tommy Pham on IL

5:06 PM CDT on September 6, 2026

Edgar Quero is back, but Kyle Teel is healthy. For now, at least.

The White Sox recalled Quero from Triple-A Charlotte take the place of Tommy Pham, whose return to the White Sox might've lasted one whole plate appearance. He's heading to the injured list with a left calf strain, and we'll see he returns.

Quero was hitting .245/.319/.304 over 113 plate appearances with Charlotte, and .268/.348/.317 over 11 games there since the White Sox optioned him to add Jake Rogers. The Sox could've theoretically recalled Drew Romo since an injury prompted the move, but with Teel and Rogers both healthy, perhaps the third catcher is more useful as a bat, and Quero's is probably the marginally better bet.

At least the White Sox didn't have to go through the short-term rigamarole with Luis Robert Jr. Instead, that honor went to the Baltimore Orioles, who placed Robert on the injured list with a hamstring strain after just three games. He'd gone just 2-for-11 with Baltimore, but the hits were a homer and a double.

The White Sox delayed Sean Burke's start by two days, but Noah Schultz remained with Charlotte, throwing another four effective innings against Gwinnett this afternoon. Instead, Bryan Hudson will be opening for bulk boy José Urquidy, with everybody besides Sean Newcomb available.

The White Sox's AL Central lead has been shaved down to two games, as the Guardians took three out of four against Detroit with a third walk-off against the Tigers.
