Peyton Pallette is back in the fold after the White Sox took him back from the Cleveland Guardians in accordance with the Rule 5 scriptures, but he comes back with more robust Statcast data than Triple-A stadiums provide.
In one sense, Pallette's pitches performed decently, as his fastball, slider and curve all hovered around average run value. That's probably because opponents hit .218 and slugged .346 against him, both of which are decent marks. Walks are what did him in, as he issued free passes to 16.5 percent of the batters he faced, and that number was only going up. He threw a lot of pitches out of the zone, and judging from his 2nd-percentile chase percentage, hitters had an increasingly easy time waiting for Pallette to come to them.
At any rate, now that he's in Charlotte without taking a spot on the 40-man, it's like the Rule 5 draft never happened. Regarding the pitchers the White Sox selected, Jedixson Paez has been ramping back up to starting in Double-A Portland to mixed results (14.2 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 HR, 2 BB, 14 K), while Alexander Alberto might warrant 40-man protection the second time around if he maintains what he's been doing at Double-A Montgomery (22 IP, 16 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 0 HR, 6 BB, 31 K).
