Duncan Davitt's writing has taken a backseat to baseball since his MLB debut, but he's back with a column in the Indianola Independent Advocate about the ways the Charlotte Knights kill time between baseball activities.

He says it falls into three categories: phones, games and puzzles, although since games and puzzles can be played on a phone, the first category might be better off called "screens."

My personal poison is chess, as it is with around 10 or so other guys, while there are about 5-7 habitual Golden Tee guys and a handful of people playing cards, depending on the game, which could include war, spades, euchre, and more that I don’t even know the names of, let alone the rules.

Video game consoles are a welcome sight in the clubhouses of professional baseball, but they aren’t wildly common in my experience.

I’ve seen two clubhouses with video games, one was Kansas City with old retro games like Space Invaders. In Gwinnett, the AAA affiliate for the Atlanta Braves, there are four video game options; an Xbox 360, a PlayStation 2, a Nintendo DS, and even a Wii.

The most popular on our team while on a road trip there was the first two with games like Black Ops 1 and 2 being a popular choice on the Xbox and MLB Slugfest on the PlayStation.
