Pregame notes: Bido shuffle

The White Sox became right-hander Osvaldo Bido's seventh organization of the past year on Saturday when they claimed him off waivers from the Braves, but now he's on the active roster with the Sox optioning left-hander Doug Nikhazy (another waiver claim) to make room.

Bido has a solid season with these A's in 2024, but his sinker-slider attack really didn't agree with Sutter Health Park's cozy environs last year (13 home runs in 44 1/3 innings), which served to begin his sojourn through various MLB organizations with unsettled bullpens. Boy, I'm sure he's glad to be back!

If this seems like a lot of waiver wire churn, don't say you weren't warned.

"Throughout the season, we'll look for opportunities as well, whether that'll be the waiver wire or trades and certainly anything internal that we feel like could help them major league club too," Chris Getz said before opening day.

The Sox are in a rebuild, and still need to add talent and depth to the organization, and waiver wire opportunism is part of that strategy. Simultaneously, when the club is 7-14 and not yet showing signs of the step forward that was promised, a regular influx of waiver claims can add to the underwhelming vibe.

Noah Schultz didn't really get to his secondaries much in his debut, including his famous sweeper. With power lefties like Nick Kurtz and Tyler Soderstrom in the A's lineup, Sunday seems like a great time to get it going.

After his pinch-hit, hit-by-pitch on Saturday, Edgar Quero is 3-for-8 with a double and five times on base in his last 10 trips to the plate. None of us are in a position to dismiss a glimmer of hope.
