Good morning!
It's been a hot minute --longer than you might realize; it was for me, at least-- since the White Sox employed a starting pitcher to log 200+ innings in a single season. The last season? 2018. Off the top of my head, I would have guessed the closest to near 200 IP was Lance Lynn: his highest total was 183.2, though, and that was split between the Sox and Dodgers in 2023. No, the answer to who has come closest since that 2018 season is one...Ivan Nova, with 187 IP the following season, 2019! Come on down and claim your prize if he topped your list.
Looking at the candidates to next pass that threshold, it wouldn't appear as though we're close to seeing a 200 inning Sox starting pitcher at any point in the near future. (Ironically, Garrett Crochet was one of just three starting pitchers to log more than 200 innings this season, along with Logan Webb and Cristopher Sanchez)
As must be clear by now, innings pitched is today's theme. Specifically: who has logged at least 200 innings in a season going back to 1945? That's 141 entries: how many can you fill in? Good luck!
