Tanner McDougal's return to the White Sox didn't result in a second chance. He was recalled when rosters expanded on Sept. 1, and optioned back to Charlotte on Sept. 2 in order to make room for Davis Martin, who is returning from the injured list for his right middle finger blister.
The last time Martin was seen wearing a White Sox uniform on, he was leaving the field on Aug. 13 after being ejected for throwing two fastballs over the head of Cincinnati's Sal Stewart, which he attributed to the blister and not malice, nor anger at James Fegan working his last day for Sox Machine. He made a rehab start for Charlotte on Friday, and he threw five easy innings on just 59 pitches.

In other reliever news, the White Sox sent Huascar Brazobán to Triple-A Charlotte to begin a rehab stint as he recovers from a left lat strain. Brazobán went on the injured list on Aug. 25, so he would be eligible to return in one week.

The White Sox haven't seen Houston starter Hayden Wesneski since 2024, when he was a member of the Cubs bullpen. He appeared in back to back Crosstown Cup games in June, and the White Sox scored on him both times, including this game-tying homer by Paul DeJong on June 5.
DeJong is still active, or at least he was before going on the full-season injured list at Triple-A Toledo after suffering a hamstring injury that required surgery back in May.
