Pregame Notes: Dominic Fletcher is no longer forgotten

This might be the best baseball photo I’ve taken. You’re welcome, Dominic Fletcher.

With the White Sox approaching their final three-game set to close out their streak of 17 straight games without a day off, they made another four-pack of moves, headlined by the return of Dominic Fletcher.

The White Sox put him back on the 40-man roster in advance of tonight's opener against the Tigers, while reinstating Dan Altavilla from the 15-day injured list. To make room on the roster, the White Sox optioned Jonathan Cannon and Tim Elko to Charlotte.

It's another wrinkle in his strange White Sox career arc, which saw him go from a Plan A at the start of 2024 to a DFA at the start of 2025. He went unclaimed, so he's spent the entire season in Charlotte, where he hit .260/.317/.453 with 17 homers over 105 games while the White Sox prioritized other outfielders. But with Luis Robert Jr. out and Mike Tauchman banged up in a way that Will Venable described in amusing fashion ...

... one more outfielder with the ability to cover center field is needed, so here he is. We'll see if he lasts the weekend.
