With all of the exciting prospects now plying their trade for Chicago, the Charlotte Knights offense isn't bereft of talent. It's more that the talent is known. White Sox fans have seen Ryan Noda, Corey Julks, Vinny Capra, Korey Lee and Jake Amaya over the last two years, and they don't light the imagination ablaze.
Will Robertson is the closest thing to an exception right now. The White Sox acquired him from the Blue Jays on July 9 for cash considerations due to Toronto's glut of left-handed outfielders on the 40-man, and the fact that his .292/.403/.578 line in Buffalo translated to seven strikeouts in his first 12 plate appearances in the majors.
It's been more of the same since joining the White Sox organization, for better or worse. He went 0-for-6 with four strikeouts during a brief cup of coffee, and then he won International Player of the Week in his first full series with Charlotte, and for the second time this season. He hit .360/.407/.840 with six of his nine hits going for extra bases (two homers, a triple and four doubles) to torment the Nashville Sounds pitching staff last week.
Robertson then homered to open this week's series with Rochester on Tuesday. Don't ask about the rest of the game.
