Noah Schultz's second half won't start on time.
Schultz was scratched from his start for Charlotte on Saturday during warmups. Kannapolis broadcaster Dan Helotie, who just happened to be taking in the game on an off day, said "something didn't look quite right after a warmup pitch," and Yoendrys Gomez stepped in to start a bullpen game instead.
That "something" was right knee discomfort. The team said it's not the first time his knee has barked, so Schultz will undergo imaging to investigate. He's allowed 15 runs over 11 ⅓ innings over his first three starts in Charlotte, and he also struggled in the Futures Game during the All-Star break.
