Sporcle Saturday: At least 40 doubles

Who has hit at least 40 doubles in a season for the White Sox?

Miguel Vargas

Good morning! As Jim wrote about on Thursday, if one were to double the output of White Sox hitters, Miguel Vargas would be the first White Sox batter to log 40 doubles in a season since 2022. Luis Robert, Jr. was actually fairly close in 2023 when he smacked 36 two-baggers, but it really has been a relatively infrequent occurrence throughout franchise history.

In all, there have been 27 player-seasons where a White Sox hitter has logged 40 or more doubles: that's the name of the game for today's Sporcle. How many can you get? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I've allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I've provided the season, position of the player, and number of doubles.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • The average triple-slash for the players on this list: .312/.380/.502.
  • Of the players on this list, every single player-season but one also recorded at least one stolen base. And, every player-season but three recorded at least one triple.
  • The record for doubles in a season is 67 set by future White Sox Earl Webb while with the Boston Red Sox in 1931.
  • Just six players have hit 60+ doubles in a season, all from the 1920s and 1930s; Freddie Freeman came oh-so-close in 2023, hitting 59.
  • Entering Friday's slate of games, Bobby Witt, Jr. leads the majors with 27 doubles.
