It seemed like just yesterday that Will Venable confirmed that Sean Burke had earned a spot in the White Sox rotation to start the season.
That's because it was. And today, he named Sean Burke the White Sox's Opening Day starter.

If it seems like it's moving a little fast, Burke himself wouldn't necessarily disagree.
"Honestly, not really," Burke told reporters when asked if he saw it coming. "Obviously everyone wants to be the Opening Day guy coming into camp. I would be lying if I said that wasn’t the goal or in the future for my career, everybody wants to do that at some point. But I knew coming into camp, there is a ton of deserving guys for this and guys with more experience. So, I think that it’s nice the rest of the staff congratulated me and everybody was super supportive. Surprised but definitely thankful and grateful for it."
Burke might have the shortest MLB track record of the team's viable candidates, but he's coming off the most impressive sample of work, so he has his own polite argument for the honor. In the meantime, assuming no injuries intervene, he'll forever have a spot on Ted's Saturday Sporcle about White Sox Opening Day batteries.

The White Sox announced that Mason Adams has a flexor strain in his right elbow, with the timetable yet to be determined. Adams exited his start against the Reds on Friday in the second inning with what the team called right elbow discomfort.
"It wasn’t a specific pitch it happened on. It was gradually bugging me throughout the second inning. I figured probably take myself out before making anything worse," Adams told reporters today.
He said that another doctor will take a look at it before figuring out his next steps. When asked whether Tommy John surgery is possible, Adams replied, "I don't think so."

Joey Gallo was scratched from the White Sox's original lineup against the Rangers today, because he's no longer in the organization.
Also, he's no longer playing his original position.
The White Sox granted Gallo is unconditional release, after which Gallo announced on Twitter that he's trying his hand at pitching.
Gallo finished his spring with the White Sox 2-for-20 with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
