Sporcle Saturday: Lots of time at short

(Photo credit: Public domain / Wikimedia Images)

Good morning!

As Jim noted on Thursday, Tim Anderson is attempting a comeback with the Angels. The idea of a turnaround under the tutelage of Ron Washington is compelling, and I know I'm not the only person on this site to be similarly hoping for a successful comeback.

When Anderson ended his tenure with the White Sox in 2023, he fell just over 100 games shy of playing 1,000 games with the franchise. That's no mean feat as just twenty-nine players have hit that milestone in their White Sox careers. Today's Sporcle, though, isn't just games played: it's about games played, most of them at shortstop.

To make the cut for the quiz, a player needed to have:

  1. Played at least 50 games for the team, and;
  2. 80% of their appearances came at shortstop.

To give you an example: the third guy on this list had 1,506 games at short with the Sox, but 1,511 games in total. In all there are 30 names: how many can you get? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I’ve allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I’ve provided the tenure of the player, and the number of games overall.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • Just two players on this list had an OPS+ better than league average: the top guy (113) and the sixth guy (109).
  • The most home runs of any player on this list hit 109.
  • The most stolen bases? 318, by the third guy on this list.
