Good morning!
It's funny to me that a person whose first name is "Chase" has, thus far, in his collegiate and professional career shown a terrific approach at the plate. For anybody who has watched the White Sox over the years --or, perhaps, simply read coverage of this franchise at Sox Machine after things truly took a turn for the worse-- plate discipline has been...lacking.
Perhaps Meidroth can provide a breath of fresh air in that respect. I think we'd all take his Worcester line where he walked 105 times against 71 strikeouts over 558 plate appearances. The strikeouts, though, are what form the basis of this week's Saturday Sporcle. I was curious to see what other White Sox players have struck out fewer than 100 times in a season in (relatively) recent history.
As you'll see when you play the quiz, fewer strikeouts doesn't necessarily equal a great (or good...or average...) season! Still, starting in 1970 and going to present-day, there have been 181 player-seasons where a player has struck out fewer than 100 times. How many can you name? Good luck!
Quiz Parameters
- To qualify, a player must have logged at least 502 plate appearances, struck out 99 times or fewer, and played from 1970-present.
- I've allotted 15 minutes for completion attempts.
- For hints, I've provided the season, number of strikeouts, and primary position(s) as listed on Baseball Reference.
Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:
- The highest OPS+ of the players on this list is 212, the 1994 1B season.
- The lowest OPS+ is 47, the 1999 SS season.
- The average triple-slash? .278/.339/.428
