Good morning!
Apropos of nothing, I recently remembered the scorching launch to the 2021 season of one Yermín Mercedes. Better times, for sure, than what we've all suffered through since: in the fifteen-game span to start Mercedes' season, he slashed .421/.459/.702 with eight extra-base hits (four doubles and four home runs).
Of course that pace couldn't last, but it did surprisingly put Mercedes into relatively rarefied air: that start was just the thirty-fifth time in franchise history a batter hit at least .400 over his first fifteen games during a season with the White Sox. And that, today, is what Saturday Sporcle will be quizzing you on: which other players have had a similar start to their seasons while with the White Sox: how many can you name? Good luck!
Quiz Parameters
- Just in case, some clarifications: to qualify, it merely needs to be the first 15 games of that player's season; it doesn't have to come at the beginning of the MLB regular season. It also doesn't have to be at the beginning of the player's career, or their first stint with the White Sox: there are multiple entries with the same player on this list from different seasons.
- To qualify, a batter must have at least 1 PA in each of those 15 games.
- I've allotted 15 minutes for completion attempts.
- For hints, I’ve provided the year, batting average, and position of the player(s) in question.
Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:
- Four players on this list are tied with the most home runs, with 4 over this span.
- 22 RBI are the most, however (1962). (Second place is 18 RBI, 1920)
- Highest batting average? .571, albeit over just 15 PAs.
