White Sox Prospects

White Sox Minor Keys: June 12, 2024

Regions Field in Birmingham (Jim Margalus)

For those wondering which White Sox pitching prospect in Winston-Salem would take Drew Thorpe's spot in the Birmingham rotation, Tyler Schweitzer is the answer, in word, and, apparently, in deed.

After posting a 3.74 ERA over 45⅔ fairly steady innings for Winston-Salem and nearly halving his walk rate from last year (13.6 percent) to this one (7.3), Schweitzer made his Double-A debut for the Barons against Pensacola on Wednesday night and allowed just one run on two singles and a walk over seven innings.

All three baserunners reached in the second inning, and the run scored on a wild pitch, but his strikeout of Dalvy Rosario stranded two runners, and started a streak of 16 consecutive batters retired to end his night.

Durham 7, Charlotte 0

  • Bryan Ramos singled and struck out thrice.
  • Colson Montgomery was 0-for-4 with a K.
  • Adam Hackenberg, 0-for-3.
  • Sean Burke: 3.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 2 HR, 40 of 71 pitches for strikes.

Notes:

*For those fretting about Montgomery's slow start, Daryl Van Schouwen talked to Paul Janish about it.

“To be honest, he’s just not on fire right now, which is what he’s been his entire minor-league career,” Janish said. “I don’t know if it’s anything specific, he’s fouling off some of the pitches he typically would hit. He’s not necessarily chasing a ton, it’s just dealing with not being totally locked in, which is OK.

“He’s still a young guy relative to the level. We think a lot of him and we’re going to look back and this will have been a very good piece of the puzzle for him.”
