Not much action at the winter meetings. Maybe a stomach virus gets things moving.

Which brings us back to Annus Horribilis.

Think the two college guys that will have my attention are Brecht from Iowa and Honeycutt from unc…. at their best Brecht represents a front line starter and honeycutt a 5 tool elite defensive cf’er… both could easily be in play for the sox at 5. The 1st base only college bats seem to be stacked up at the top of the draft but I really cant see the sox doing that again.

The Fedde signing probably won’t be official by 1pm, so the White Sox can use the Rule 5 pick. Here are some names of guys with Bannister, Barfield, or Watson ties:

Nick Avila, RHP
RJ Dabovich, RHP
Carson Ragsdale, RHP

Deyvison de los Santos, 1B
Kristian Robinson, OF

Asa Lacy, LHP
Devin Mann, UTIL

What happened with Kristian Robinson?

If Robinson can play defense I could see where you could stash him as the 4th OF for the year. I still want to know what happened with him though.

Robinson had legal/visa issues that kept him away from baseball from 2020-2022. He had a nice season across 4 levels in 2023, but Josh Barfield himself admitted Robinson was far from the big leagues when the D-Backs DFA’d him in August. (Of course, “far from the big leagues” means something different for a contender.)

Very raw — we can assume he picked up where he left off in 2019, and my understanding is that he was pretty inexperienced as a signee in 2017. Super K and GB prone.

I really liked Asa Lacy coming out of college, did he get a case of the yips? His command wasn’t that bad before. I don’t see how you could add him to the 26 man.

Haven’t seen a good answer. But I could see Bannister/Katz wanting to get their hands on the guy since the risk of returning him is only 50k.

The cost of keeping him would be 100k and stomaching him in low-leverage relief (when he isn’t maxing out his allowed IL time).

Yeah I could see a looksy if there’s nothing else they like.
