White Sox Minor Keys: May 12, 2023

Regions Field in Birmingham

On a night where the White Sox walked eight Houston Astros over nine innings, the farm system showed that the Sox's options might be limited.

The Charlotte Knights walked 10 batters over nine innings, including five by Sean Burke over 3⅓, while the Birmingham Barons walked nine over nine in the front half of their doubleheader (although two were by a position player). The back half was tamer by comparison, but Matthew Thompson issued all three of the team's walks over his 3⅓ to start.

Down in Kannapolis, Tanner McDougal threw half of his 56 pitches for strikes as he issued five walks over two innings.

In this environment, Jonathan Cannon's fine start to his first professional season stands out even more. He threw seven innings on just 78 pitches, and has walked just nine batters over his first 35⅓ innings at High-A.
