Jason Benetti was just talking about how the Mariners starter Logan Gilbert attended Stetson University as did Kluber and deGrom. I think it is a weird coincidence that Stetsons (as in the hat) was the answer to 10 down in today’s crossword in the Tribune. I’m sure this is some kind of omen but we’ll have to wait to find out what kind of omen. My view is that all omens are easier to interpret in hindsight.

Speaking of crosswords and omens, about 25 years ago I was having lunch with a friend of mine. He started to ask me about one of the clues to a crossword he was doing. Now I never read the paper or did crosswords, so I had no way of knowing anything. All he was able to get out was “what do you call…. ” and I interrupted him by blurting out the word “albino”. I have no idea what prompted me to say that, no thought preceded that at all. And it was totally weird how I said it, with confidence as if I knew. He looked as if he had seen a ghost, as the clue he was going to ask was “what do you call a person lacking pigment”. Not really an omen, but still, is in the category of unexplainable coincidences/Twilight Zone material.

Years later when we hung out, at random times I would sometimes say in a creepy voice “albino”, and he would be like “stop dude, you’re freaking me out”. He was a huge Sox fan, so in case he reads this, “what up dude!”
