What a great weekend for the Chicago White Sox! After sweeping the Kansas City Royals, the Sox find themselves alone in second place of the AL Central. While Luis Robert continues to hit, and bounce back performances from Yasmani Grandal, Dylan Cease, and Nick Madrigal make the team more complete, losing Tim Anderson for the next eight games could hurt. Josh and Jim breakdown the impact of Anderson’s injury and how the White Sox will look without him.
[30:38] Next on the schedule is the Milwaukee Brewers, who had a terrible weekend without playing any games because those scheduled contests with St. Louis are postponed. Brad Ford of Brew Crew Ball joins the show to give a breakdown on the Brewers and what White Sox fans should expect over the next four games.
[62:00] P.O. Sox Questions:
Although it is getting lost in the successes of his teammates, I am concerned about Edwin Encarnacion's start. With each game counting for... yada yada yada, how long of a leash should he get before those at-bats go elsewhere? If Edwin isn't hitting I would like to see Grandal, McCann, Collins, Mazara, and Mercedes get ABs at DH. The parrot may flocked home like the salmon of Capistrano... _@MidwayJimbo
Do you guys think the Sox will DFA Nicky Delmonico to make room for Mazara?
Adam Engel: actual improvement or just a hot streak? He was looking better when he came back last season, but I’m not sure if we could ever expect a league average bat from him.
Pretty far off topic so maybe it doesn't quite fit in PO Sox but with the announcement of Defector by ex-Deadspinners this week, the success of subscriber sites like The Athletic and Sox Machine and the growth of email newsletters are we in a new era of sports journalism where users can get their content from a source that aligns with their hyperspecific interests, political leanings, preferred writing style, etc.?
Patreon-Only Episode:
The Royals are awful but Whit Merrfield and Jorge Soler are not and would be big upgrades for the Sox in RF. Merrfield seems to occupy a Jose Abreu type role for the Royals and they've spurned trade proposals before for him, but what about Soler?
What odds do you give on the Field of Dreams game taking place as scheduled?
