Yet another unrealistic off-season plan

PREAMBLE

We all know at this point that guessing what the White Sox will do with their money and assets is a futile exercise. To that end, i've envisioned an unrealistic plan, obviously devised by amateurs, designed to carry a bad team to respectability in the next season. Nothing means anything and we're all gonna burn.

ARBITRATION-ELIGIBLE PLAYERS

    • Alex Colomé, $10.3M Tender
    • Yolmer Sánchez, $6.2M Non-tender
    • James McCann, $4.9M Tender
    • Carlos Rodon, $4.5M Tender
    • Leury García, $4M Tender
    • Evan Marshall, $1.3M Tender
    • Josh Osich, $1M Non-tender
    • Ryan Goins, $900K Non-tender

CLUB OPTIONS

    • Welington Castillo: $8 million/$500,000 buyout DECLINE

OTHER IMPENDING FREE AGENTS

    • Jose Abreu (made $16M in 2019) As Elsa says, Let it Go
    • Iván Nova (made $9,166,167 in 2019) - Let it Go
    • Jon Jay (made $4M in 2019) - so long and thanks for all the fish
    • Hector Santiago (made $2M in 2019 on split contract) - Maybe he will pitch in Charlotte for the minimum? Anyways, bye.

FREE AGENTS

Yasmani Grandal  - 4/75 (18.75 x 4) - We need this guy, we know we need this guy, let's get this guy

Edwin Encarnacion - 2/30M (16/14) - He's been a better hitter for longer than Jose. I see him as a kind of lesser Nelson Cruz - a good bat guy that should stay good despite his age

Jake Odorizzi - 3/50 (18/16/16) - Advanced metrics say the improvements are real. Let's pray to God they're right.

Rick Porcello - 1/9 - If he bounces back, great. If not, he's credible depth

Drew Pomeranz - 2/14 (7/7) - Absolutely dominant out of the pen. See if you can ride that wave.

TRADES

Reynaldo Lopez to Mets for Brandon Nimmo - Mets are brushing up against their payroll ceiling and could use a pre-arb BOTR guy. Nimmo is a lottery ticket but has Eaton-ish skills when healthy.

Luis Gonzalez and Tyler Johnson to Orioles for Mychal Givens - Pen

SUMMARY

The biggest holes to fill are DH and RF - to that end,we get EE and Nimmo. The other biggest hole, the rotation, is patched with Odorizzi and Porcello. Grandal plays C/1B/DH.

1B - Grandal/Collins/EE

2B - Garcia until Madrigal is ready

SS - Anderson

3B - Moncada

C - Grandal

LF - Eloy

CF - Engel until Robert is ready

RF - Nimmo

DH - EE

Bench - McCann/Collins/Engel/Garcia/Mendick

SP - Giolito/Odorizzi/Cease/Porcello/Kopech (at some point you have to deal with Rodon, but that was always going to get hairy no matter what happens)

RP - Colome/Bummer/Givens/Pomeranz/Herrera/Marshall/Cordero

I dunno man, baseball is hard.
