White Sox Minor Keys: May 25, 2018

Carson Fulmer is back in Charlotte, but his control problems followed him from Chicago.

Fulmer picked up the win in Charlotte’s 2-1 victory over Indianapolis, but he wouldn’t have been in such a position on other nights. He issued six walks over five innings, yet somehow limited the damage to just the single run.

Our man in Charlotte Jonathan Lee talked to Fulmer after the game, and it seems as though some disappointment has seeped into his natural inclination towards optimism and confidence.

Charlotte 2, Indianapolis 1

  • Carson Fulmer: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 6 BB, 5 K, 1 WP

*Carlos Rodon’s timetable hasn’t changed despite the line drive to his forehead. Rick Renteria said he suffered a cut that required staples, but he should be able to make his next start. Renteria says the Sox are planning for two before he’s back in the majors, although that could change if he picks up where he left off.

Jackson 5, Birmingham 2

  • Danny Mendick went 1-for-5.
  • Zack Collins singled and struck out thrice.
  • Eloy Jimenez was 2-for-4 with a triple and a strikeout.
  • Jameson Fisher, 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.
  • Spencer Adams: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 2 HR

Winston-Salem 3, Potomac 0

  • Luis Alexander Basabe went 1-for-3 with a walk. He was also caught stealing.
  • Blake Rutherford was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
  • Micker Adolfo and Ti’Quan Forbes both went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.
  • Gavin Sheets was 1-for-4.
  • Joel Booker singled, walked, struck out, and went 1-for-2 on the basepaths.

West Virginia 5, Kannapolis 0

  • Luis Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a double, strikeout and stolen base.
  • Justin Yurchak, 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.
  • Evan Skoug went 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
  • Luis Curbelo! 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

Time for Eloy to go to Charlotte no?   Man against boys put them here.

I remember Jim or Josh hypothesizing on the podcast that he will stick around in Birmingham until the AA all star festivities, which are being held in Birmingham. Seemed very plausible to me.

Well, at least Fulmer looked like a major league pitcher for a couple innings before he lost command.

Two more rehab starts? Does that really seem necessary?

Right Size Wrong Shape

It might be nice to see him go more than 5 innings first.

Why? Nobody else in the rotation does.

Hopefully Fulmer figures it out.

Also, he just got married over the off-season. That will be tough on the home life if he stays in Charlotte for some time. Although that’s the reality for many fringe major leaguers and those working through the minors.

i mean… he was a top ten pick. the guy can buy a condo in Charlotte.

While his new wife, who has a good job as an interior designer or something like that, lives in Chicago.

First-world problems, to be sure, but still troubles.
