White Sox Minor Keys: Sept. 5, 2026

Baseball America ran through the Dominican Summer League season and produced a list of the top 35 prospects, and were it not for the Brenton Doyle trade, the White Sox would've had two of them.

Right-handed pitcher Yordany Marte ranked 25th:

Marte was the White Sox’s best pitching prospect in the DSL, and he turned in a strong outing during the all-star game as well. The youthful righthander showed a quality three-pitch mix with present impact and growth potential, as well as an advanced ability to manipulate the ball. There are questions about how much projection his body has left, but with a bit more refinement scouts see a savvy pitcher with three offerings that grade as average or a tick above. If everything clicks, he fits toward the back of a rotation.

And Carlos Vielma, now a member of the Rockies organization, came in at No. 33:

Vielma is one of two players on this list—along with Joniel Hernandez—who were moved at the trade deadline. Vielma went from the White Sox to the Rockies in the deal that brought outfielder Brenton Doyle to Chicago. The mature-framed infielder’s value lies in his bat, which projects as an above-average tool in the big leagues. His power is only middling, however, and he’s a below-average defender at both spots on the infield. He controls the zone and makes plenty of contact, which will have to continue as he moves through the minors.

• Shane Smith: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 2 WP, 13 of 28 pitches for strikes.

Birmingham 2, Biloxi 1 (Game 1, 7 innings)

• Caleb Bonemer went 1-for-3 with a homer and a walk.
• Anthony DePino was 1-for-3 with a double and a strikeout.
• Ryan Burrowes was 0-for-1 with a walk and an HBP.
• Colby Shelton drew a walk in a pinch-hitting appearance.
• Lucas Gordon: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K, 30 of 48 pitches for strikes; 39 of those pitches came in the second.
• Pierce George: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 10 of 15 pitches for strikes.

• James Taussig tripled up on doubles during a 3-for-5 night, striking out once.
• Braden Holcomb made his High-A debut, going 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts.
