With the Winston-Salem Dash taking care of business in the South Atlantic League Playoffs using the minimum amount of games, the Charlotte Knights are the last affiliate in action, with four games left to play in Norfolk before calling it a season.
Speaking of the Charlotte Knights, they're in the process of attempting to line up $40 million in upgrades to Truist Field. The proposal asks for the $40 million to be pooled from three sources, with Diamond Baseball Holdings, city of Charlotte and Knights all contributing $13.3 million apiece.
Truist Field is 12 years old, Charlotte's COO admitted "it's not falling apart," and the team hasn't yet provided details of what sort of renovations would be included, so it makes sense that the economic development and workforce committee hasn't voted on the proposal. The city probably should end up saying "no" to whatever it is, but given that Diamond Baseball Holdings owns two other White Sox affiliates, I'm interested in seeing how aggressively the group pursues public funds, and whether it's a game plan it uses everywhere.
