Baseball America and MLB PIpeline both released their final organization prospect rankings of the season this week, accounting for all signed draft picks and prospects who were traded (for), and when comparing them side by side, there isn't a whole lot of disagreement. Then again, it's hard to vary wildly when two top-10 lists share the same 10 names between them.
| BA | Rank | MLB |
|---|---|---|
| Roch Cholowsky | 1 | Roch Cholowsky |
| Caleb Bonemer | 2 | Caleb Bonemer |
| Billy Carlson | 3 | Billy Carlson |
| Hagen Smith | 4 | Hagen Smith |
| Tanner McDougal | 5 | Cole Prosek |
| Cole Prosek | 6 | Landon Thome |
| Landon Thome | 7 | Tanner McDougal |
| Joey Volchko | 8 | Jaden Fauske |
| Jaden Fauske | 9 | Joey Volchko |
| William Bergolla Jr. | 10 | William Bergolla Jr. |
The other takeaway is that these top 10 lists include three guys who have yet to make their professional debut, and another who was limited to 11 games. Ranking prospects is by definition a speculative exercise, but this system looks like it'll leave even more blanks than usual for everybody to fill in to the best of their abilities.
On a side note, Billy Carlson registers at No. 62 on MLB Pipeline's Top 100. It's not quite as bullish as Keith Law's ranking, but it seems like there are two schools of thought on his skill set -- one that places him comfortably inside a top-100 context, and one that leaves him out.
