Indeed, Tyler Schweitzer's reward for recording the White Sox's first four-inning save in 24 years is a trip back to Charlotte.

The Sox optioned Schweitzer to Triple-A in order to make room for Noah Schultz, who starts this morning at Camden Yards in hopes of leading the White Sox to their first road sweep of the year.

Schultz was reinstated from the injured list after missing all of June due to a recurrence of right knee patellar tendintis. He made three rehab starts with Charlotte, the last of which came closest to putting it all together, as it featured an acceptable amount of free bases.

  • June 16: 1.2 IP 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 38 pitches, 21 strikes
  • June 21: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 2 HBP, 57/38
  • June 26: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 1 HR, 72/54

In terms of the rotation, Schultz is taking the place of David Sandlin, who stepped up to throw six innings of one-run ball in the White Sox's 22-1 thrashing of the Royals back on Friday, so while Schultz returns to a rotation that doesn't have a fixed fifth starter, he does have a tough individual act to follow.

It'll be a matchup of starters who have missed some time, as Dean Kremer will make his first start since April 18 after being reinstated from the 60-day injured list due to a strained quad. Kremer is undefeated against the White Sox in four career starts, going 3-0 with a 1.54 ERA over 23⅓ innings.

Sam Antonacci returns to the top of the White Sox lineup after sitting Tuesday night, as the pitch he took to his forearm/wrist on Monday reminded Will Venable that Antonacci was due a day off at some point anyway.

Colson Montgomery will be the one to sit. He hit a 440-foot homer to Eutaw Street on Tuesday, but he also went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts, closing out a June over which he hit .186/.263/.442 with a 39 percent strikeout rate. He'd played 17 games in a row, which won't have anybody in Baltimore confusing him for Cal Ripken Jr., but still.

Major League Baseball unveiled the rosters for the Futures Game, and Caleb Bonemer will be the lone White Sox representative. The silver lining is that Braden Montgomery seemed ticketed for this sort of showcase, and he's producing with the White Sox instead.

The Futures Game will be played at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia during All-Star Sunday on July 12 at 11 a.m. CT. James will be there, putting your Sox Machine dollars to work.
